Interact

An integrated weblog, forum and group management package, with a host of extra features.

Put another way, it's an easy to use package for communicating with a group of people without complicated client software.

How does it work?

View a sample manager's screenLet's say you run a small marketing department, with a few people that work for you. You've been asked to "improve communication" within the group, with other groups in the company, and also with your partners.

You start by installing Cascade Technology Group Interact on a computer accessible via the Internet. The first thing you do is create a new program and add all of your staff to the list. You can then send them all newsletters via email and post files for them to download (for example, the latest rules on logos and graphics as a Word document).

View a sample weblog listNext, you decide that two other people in your group as well as yourself should post to a public web page with news about upcoming events, etc. You make them "managers" in the software as well, and all three of you create weblogs, which you are able to easily update via a web browser.

Edit your weblogPleased with your success so far, you decide to experiment with an external weblog. You create a new template, based on the HTML of your company's main website, and add a weblog for the public to read, announcing events and seminars that your company will be attending. The weblog is automatically published via RSS (an XML format), and other websites (perhaps the industry daily website) begin to integrate the headlines of your events weblog into their resources page.

View a forum thread in progressFrom here, you can expand to use Cascade Technology Group Interact's comarketing features, to integrate a searchable company and products list, the reporting features to generate reports on the activities of subscribers, and more.

And you've done all of this entirely in your web browser.

What do I need?

To install and use Interact, you'll need the following:
  • Java Virtual Machine
  • Java-based Web Server
  • SQL-based Relational Database
  • A SMTP-based Email account (this includes Yahoo! Premium edition, but not the free account service)

Note that if you have little or no idea what all of these are, instructions are provided with the download which will allow you to install and set up Interact on your own personal computer. If you decide that you would like to proceed further but are unsure how to set up your network and mail settings, you can make contact and we will likely be able to provide some assistance.

Note that for collaboration purposes, for example on a private network, you'll need a static IP address. If you intend to use this product on the Internet and only have access to a dynamic IP address (such as some of the less expensive DSL and cable modem accounts), you'll probably want to use a dynamic DNS service.

Generally speaking, a 300MHz or better, 128MB of RAM system running either Windows 2000/XP and Mac OS X is recommended. Linux, Solaris, and other UNIX-based systems vary tremendously - we're interested in hearing from you if you are using any such system.

Other Web Servers And Operating Systems

Cascade Technology Group Interact is a pure Java web application, and as such it should work on just about any standard operating system, Java-based web server and database. This includes BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss, Oracle, and a host of other web servers, as well as a potentially huge number of SQL-based relational databases.

We only intend to support JDK 1.3 and later JVMs at this time.

We prioritize our testing and support efforts based on the web and database servers our customers use. There is no claim made for compatibility, but please let us know so we can be of assistance.

Database Support

In this release, we have focused on support for MySQL, however, we intend to support additional databases as our customers request (in particular, Oracle, Access, and MS SQL Server). If you are using a non-MySQL database, please make contact and let us know what database you prefer.
